However, the in vitro conditions used are substantially different in their environmental conditions and in the manner of new-bone formation than what occurs in vivo, while most of the in vivo experiments employed invasive mechanical loading methods. More importantly, the bone defect models used were not consistent with clinical situations because they did not take internal fixation factors into consideration.
