Musical Standards

Pershore Choral is not a professional choir and therefore does not expect members to be expert performers and sight singers. We do however expect members at least to be able to sing in tune, hold a line and follow a standard four part vocal score. Through practice and regular attendance at rehearsals all members are soon able to cope with and fully enjoy whatever the repertoire demands.

Auditions

New members are normally allowed a few weeks to get to know us and how we go about things before our musical director auditions them. Auditions, are conducted informally in private and consist of a simple voice test usually based on what is being rehearsed. Those who successfully complete the audition are confirmed as members of the chorus.  While we value those who can sight read music, our conductor is keen to encourage those with little or no sight reading ability to enjoy the experience of singing in a full chorus.

Commitment

It is hoped that members will want to rehearse and take part in concerts whatever music is being sung. Some works are more challenging and less well known than others but we ask that members commit themselves fully to the programme. it is only in this way that we cam improve and enlarge our repertoire. Very often many of us have grown to love  works that are new to us and which in the first instance seem impossibly difficult to learn and not enjoyable to sing.

Concerts

We normally sing in Pershore Abbey, a superb venue with acoustics which are ideal for a chorus of our size. We work with a number of professional orchestras and our carefully chosen soloists come from all over the country and beyond.
